This was our first Mardi Gras here in New Orleans and as you would expect we learned a few things. First is that it is called Carnival Season here which culminates on Mardi Gras. Second it is a season because it starts right after New Year's Day and goes on until Fat Tuesday with parades all over town picking up steam toward the end of 'The Season'. Third, the locals take off. Meaning they either leave town or they take off work (good luck getting someone sober to come fix that leak or deliver a baby for that matter). Here are few shots from different parades we attended. The kids sit in a bench on top of ladder so they can see and catch the beads and toys the krewes throw.
